What kinds of bits are good for cutting man-made sheet goods?

A 3/8-inch or 1/2-inch diameter, 1-flute compression cutter works well when making one-pass cuts in melamine coated particle board.
If you need to make multiple passes in melamine coated particle board, use a down-cut spiral cutter for the first pass and an up-cut spiral for the final pass to minimize chipping.
For MDF and particle board, straight cutters work well.

What are good spindle RPMs and move speeds for cutting MDF?

Using an Onsrud 3/8" single flute compression to cut .75" per pass, a feed speed of 480 IPM or 8 IPS and a Spindle speed between 16,000 and 18,000 rpm gives good results. The bit could probably cut 40 sheets before it gets very dull, maybe more.
